The iPad Air 4 debuts at a higher price than the iPad Air 3. The 64GB model will start at $899 while the 256GB model will start at $1,129 for the Wi-Fi only devices. The Wi-Fi + Cellular models will cost $1099 for the 64GB model and $1,329 for the 256GB model.

iPad Air 4 Design and Display

The new iPad Air is a significant improvement from the previous generations in terms of design and display. It features an all-screen 10.9 inch Retina display with a resolution of 2360 x 1640p, a flat edge and some subtle edge buttons. Features like Apple's True Tone are featured in the display to improve the visuals.

For the first time in a device from Apple, Touch ID is incorporated into the side-mounted power button rather than the home button, which is missing in the iPad Air 4. The absence of the home button gives the iPad Air slim bezels. The device will sell in 5 colours, Rose Gold, Silver, Sky Blue, Green and Space Grey.

Performance

The new iPad Air is powered by Apple’s latest and most advanced chip, the 5nm A14 Bionic. The chip is said to be 40% faster than the previous 7nm A13 chipset and will 30% faster graphics. It ships with iPadOS 14 and all the cool new features that come with this latest OS.

Apple Pencil and Supported Accessories

The iPad Air 4 is compatible with the best of Apple accessories like the Magic Keyboard, the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil, Smart Keyboard Folio and the new Smart Folio covers. The Apple pencil docks magnetically to the side of the iPad Air for easy charging and storing.

Coupled with the latest iPadOS 14, the 2nd Gen Apple pencil offers a pleasant user experience with features such as Scribble handwriting to text. All these accessories are sold separately from the device.

Battery

Going on to the battery, Apple did not announce the battery capacity of the iPad Air 4. What they did, however, they quoted the iPad Air 4's battery is capable of lasting up to 9 hours if you're on cellular, and 10 hours if you’re surfing the web on Wi-Fi or watching videos.

Camera

Finally, this 4th Gen iPad Air has a rear 12MP wide-angle lens and a 7MP FaceTime HD camera on the front. Although cameras are rarely a focus in a tablet, Apple has incorporated several features in the iPad Air 4 that should make the camera experience good if not great. These include 4K video, high-resolution photos and slo-mo videos. The iPad Air has USB-C charging.
