iPad Air (2nd Generation)
The iPad Air (2nd Generation) is the successor in the chain of tablets produced by Apple that starts from the original iPad, then goes on to iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4 and iPad. The iPad Air 2 was released in Australia on Friday 24 October 2014 - the same day also as they went on sale in the US - and the tablets range in price from $619 for the 16GB WiFi version up to $1019 for the 128GB mobile version. The release also coincided with the iPad Mini 3 release. The device comes standard with iOS 8.3, which offers significant improvements over previous Apple mobile operating system release including performance improvements, signal and new emojis. It's the thinnest, lightest tablet in the iPad's history, but that doesn't mean they've skimped on all the other features: just the opposite in fact.
The iPad Air 2, released on October 22, 2014, marked a significant upgrade to its predecessor, boasting a thinner, lighter, and faster design. Announced on October 16, 2014, alongside the iPad Mini 3, this device retained the same height, width, and screen size as the original iPad Air, while introducing Touch ID.
As of March 31, 2016, the first-generation iPad Pro took over as the flagship model, with the 9.7-inch version signaling the beginning of the end for the iPad Air 2 as a top-tier device. The Air 2 was subsequently relegated to mid-range status.
The iPad Air 2's lifespan came to an end on March 21, 2017, when it was discontinued, along with the iPad Mini 2, to make way for the fifth-generation iPad, which assumed the role of entry-level model. The third-generation iPad Air, released on March 18, 2019, eventually succeeded the Air 2. The iPad Air 2's successor, the third-generation iPad Air, was released on March 18, 2019
In terms of software support, the iPad Air 2 had a respectable run, spanning eight versions of iOS and iPadOS, from iOS 8 to iPadOS 15. However, due to hardware limitations, it does not support the latest iPadOS 16.
